How do I set my Open PDFs to open in Acrobat instead of Reader?

Dear Lori,

Here’s ‘Dumb Question 101.’ When I receive a PDF as an e-mail attachment, it automatically opens in Adobe Reader 8, even though I also have Acrobat installed. I can read the document, but am unable to enter any data. I can print it and then enter my data with a pen or pencil, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of using PDF? Is it possible for all my inbound PDF attachments to be opened by Acrobat Pro 8.1 instead?

— BH

Lori responds,

Dear BH,

Great question! Actually, I hear this all the time. Assuming that you are on a Windows computer, go to any folder and select Tools > Folder Options from the menu bar. From the Folder Options dialog, select the File Types tab. Go to PDF - where it says “opens with,” change it from Reader to Acrobat.
