Why use 3D Annotation in CAD?
An overview of how 3D Annotation - MBD Data (Model Based Definitions), PMI Data (Product Manufacturing Information) and FTA Data (Functional Tolerancing & Annotation) - within CAD Models using Acrobat 3D eliminates the need for the accommodating blueprint, solves long term storage, adds security, and insures data integrity

3D JavaScripts

Boxoball Javascript for physics gravity and collisions
The BoxoBals 3D PDF demonstrates sophisticated control of 3D objects using Javascript. The physics in the demo is this Javascript attached to the 3D balls that simulate collision detection and gravity.

Control the Visibility or Render Mode of a Group of Objects
A Javascript class to control the visibility and or render mode of groups of objects all at once. It is intended for when you need the ability to easily hide/show/or highlight large selections of a model
interactively.

Working with Acrobat 3D JavaScript - Part 1
26 minute SWF tutorial that gives a basic overview of how to use 3D Annotation Javascripts to control 3D presentations in PDFs. 3D Javascript can control the render modes and 3D matrix transformations of any of the individual meshes; setting camera position, target, and field of view; detecting mouse and keyboard events; controlling animations, and many more behaviors. Time Event Handlers allow any attribute to be changed continuously over time.

3D JavaScript reference
This guide provides a listing of the JavaScript APIs specific to adding interactivity to 3D annotations within PDF. Using the Acrobat 3D JavaScript API, you can control all aspects of a 3D scene, from lighting and animation, to physical simulation and interactivity.

Animation Controller
A comprehensive Javascript that offers simple control over most aspects of animation in a 3D Annotation object within an Adobe PDF file. Simple commands control play, pause, reset, loop, forward/backwards, speed, smoothness, and range control.

Constrain Camera Tilt
A 3D javascript to prevent the camera from tilting to the side (positive Z-axis is always up). It also scales up or down the "Walk" tool by a settable factor. Just modify the appropriate variables at the beginning of the script to suit your needs and attach it to your 3D Annotation and it should work.

Camera Rotation with Mass
An advanced script that replaces the default camera rotation functionality with a version that makes the model feel like it has some mass. Adjust the properties of the camera by calling the various set____() methods of the cameraController object at the end of the script. The script attempts to calculate some defaults based on the size of your model so it might work right out of the box.

Tools & Extensions

Acrobat 3D Capture Plug-in
Acrobat 3D plug-in that adds a 3D submenu to the Advanced menu. This lets you capture without using the Print Screen. It also seems to fix some anomalies with the built-in capture in Acrobat 3D 1.0.

Presentations

Acrobat 3D: Scripting Your 3D Objects
This presentation from MAX 2006 helped developers understand Acrobat 3D JavaScript APIs and learn to manipulate 3D objects via the JavaScript model. Acrobat 3D adds a very rich JavaScript model to Acrobat with over 800 API calls that enable developers to control all aspects of the 3D environment and create relationships with the enclosing PDF document.
