DECEMBER 2006

Got Acrobat questions? Ask an expert!

We've just launched on AcrobatUsers.com an expanded capability for user-community members to get answers to Acrobat-related questions. The first version of the site's new "Ask an Expert" feature offers a way to submit a specific question that will be answered by one of a select group of expert users. It works like this:

A registered member of the community logs in and submits a question using a standardized, easy-to-use form. Each submission is stored in a database and will simultaneously send an e-mail message to our 10-12 experts, one (or more) who will log in and respond in a timely manner. Once at least one of the experts has answered a question, the Q&A will automatically appear on the website. Check out a few that are now live!

In the near future, an updated version will allow any member to respond to other member questions, and responses will be threaded. We're tentatively planning to implement a full-fledged discussion forum on the site around mid-year, based in part on feedback we gather. Please give the experts a try, then share your thoughts and suggestions.

Last but not least: Happy and merry season-ending holidays to everyone in the global Acrobat community from all of us at AcrobatUsers.com! There’ll be a little less activity toward the end of this month as Adobe Systems will be closed for a week. Back for more in 2007.

Best Regards
~ Kurt, Editor, AcrobatUsers.com

TIP: Creating and using security policies
Acrobat 8 includes enhancements that simplify the creation and application of security policies, which can include encryption, permission settings and information about who can open the PDFs or change security settings.

Learn how to create policies utilizing password protection, certificate or server-based (Policy Server) security.

Download free Adobe Reader 8
The free Adobe Reader has now been updated — with a new streamlined user interface — and is available for download from Adobe.com. It includes new and improved functionality, including the often-requested capability to directly save user-entered data in PDF forms (when the form has been properly Reader-enabled with Acrobat 8 Professional). Also, Reader now has its own Adobe.com blog!
