OCTOBER 2006

Acrobat 8: Coming (shipping) soon!

Even though Acrobat 8 has been officially announced and demonstrated online by Adobe Systems, only a select group of users — beta testers — have so far been able to give it a first-hand test drive. That should soon begin to change, with the stated November availability approaching. If you pre-order, you'll be among the first to receive it — via box or electronic download.

If you're not planning to be among the first wave, but still are eager to get a closer look, there are a number of such opportunities, including:

  • Adobe MAX 2006 (October 23-26) in Las Vegas includes sessions featuring applications of Acrobat and Acrobat Connect.
  • The Adobe Acrobat PDF Central Conference (Nov. 6-9) in Council Bluffs, IA — near Omaha, NE – offers a lineup of expert speakers from Adobe and the user community.
  • In my blog, I recently cited a series of live Acrobat 8 seminars, beginning soon and with stopovers in a number of locations.
  • Most Acrobat User Community chapter meetings will be showcasing Acrobat 8 in the near future, so check the dates and cities.

Ohhh, and one more thing: If you missed the Acrobat 8 webinar we hosted on September 19, we have now posted an archived version for online viewing by members.

Best Regards

Blogging Acrobat 8
Elsewhere online, a noted blogger speculated that the initial Acrobat 8 announcement hasn't triggered significant blogging activity. It may be true in the general-purpose blogosphere, but the Acrobat-expert bloggers on AcrobatUsers.com have been posting a mix of information and opinion for the past few weeks. A couple recent examples:
