Acrobat: The next generation begins
Adobe Acrobat 8 hasn't been the company's best-kept secret during the past few months, with premature references trickling out in analyst briefings and executive interviews. During that time, we've had the chance to get some hands-on experience with the beta versions, eagerly awaiting the moment we could begin to report the news and share some first impressions. The moment has arrived!
In "First Look: Acrobat 8," I've summarized some of the top new and enhanced features, with additional information about several. We'll go into greater detail in the coming weeks so that by the time it ships, you'll know what to expect.
One of the first reactions you'll likely have is to the user interface changes. I'll admit to some initial concern about having to relearn where my most-used features and tools are located. But I quickly warmed to the simplified lookespecially to the new, customizable toolbars. Nice!
Another noteworthy change is the way PDF documents display. In Acrobat 7, a PDF appears sandwiched between the application's multiple rows of toolbars, navigational elements and other overhead. In Acrobat 8, Adobe has put the document front and center by minimizing the visual clutter.
Our select group of Acrobat-expert bloggers, all who have likewise been testing pre-release versions, are already sharing their insights, opinions and experiences. We're eager to hear your reactions and to field your questions!
Best Regards
~ Kurt, Editor, AcrobatUsers.com
