I have a large collection of scanned text/figure images imported into PDF. While they were scanned at 300dpi, preflight check shows some as less than 300dpi.
Is there a +/- tolerance associated with scan software(s)?
Is there a means of programmatically re-processing to increase resolution? Or, is time to rescan?

The only way you can resample the scans is to use a program like Photoshop. You can create an Action in Photoshop to resample the files to 300 ppi, however, doing so will interpolate the image resolution and may not provide the results you want. If you intend to use Recognize Text using OCR, then resampling can help out.
If your documents contain text and line art, you might achieve better results by scanning the originals at higher resolutions - 600 to 1200 ppi if using Acrobat's OCR feature.

Yes, scanning at a higher resolution
helped. From trial and error, learned
that editing the default for
"Create PDF From Scanner" was the key.
Have to avoid "adaptive" compression.
