Q: We are using Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0.9. One of our users says:

The pdfmaker isn't working. It says "missing PDFmaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode"

Secondly my OCR feature isn't working either.

A:I'm posting this as a general reply - most likley your fix will be #1.

Note: Admin rights will be needed for each of these. Yes, Detect and Repair only runs as an Admin level process.

In order of easy to almost impossible (think Dante's Inferno).

1) Launch Acrobat Help | Detect and Repair - this will force the reinstallation of the product files but will not change any settings.

2) Add / Remove Programs - Click on Adobe Acrobat 7.0.9 Professional then Change/Remove. Through there you can go through the settings and install components that may not have beein installed (e.g. OCR).

3) Use Add/Remove to completely uinstall and reinstall. On per-seat licenses be sure to deactivate your serial number first. Reactivate after reinstallation.

4) Manual - Blow away all the files/directories associated with the product. I counted around 5-10 different directory locations you will need to purge along with individual integrated entries (e.g. PDFMaker Macro files). Then scrub the registry - well over 1000 entries total (most are under HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat and HKLM\Software\Adobe\Acrobat - but there are also a bazillion classes to clean up. Then use CCLEANER to purge the add/remove programs entry as well as any thing you missed also Microsoft InstallShield cleanup tool may be needed. Now, if you haven't broken the rest of your machine (survives a reboot), you can reinstall.

Good luck!
