Hi Petec711,

Unless the author of the PDF in question applied Usage Rights or added fillable fields to it with Acrobat Pro, you won't be able to type on the document.  If Usage Rights were applied you should see a message bar at the top of the doument stating that.  If fillable fields were added you would be able to place your cursor in a field and type in the field.  Many PDFs available online are simply static pages with no interactivity- this may be the case here.
