TouchUp Object tool - goes to Illustrator not Photoshop

I have a pdf that was created in Pagemaker 7. When I go to tools, advanced editing, touchup object  and hold down the option key and click on a photo, it takes me to Illustrator - not Photoshop. It also has a bunch of "ghosted" light blue boxes all over the page. I am trying to convert the photographs to grayscale and enhance them. Can you help? I would be happy to email the file. It come from a high school that I work with.

Hi exshaw1919,

Check your preferences in Acrobat 8. Edit --> Preferences --> Touchup panel. Make sure you have Photoshop selected as the primary Editor.

Hope this helps,

No preferences had been selected. I selected Photoshop in Preferences and it doesn't take me to Illustrator or Photoshop. Nothing happens. Could it be the way the pdf was created?
