Removing Reader-enabling and protection from PDF forms in a batch process.

My users want to save filled-in PDF forms which I have Reader-enabled, after adding protection.

Some users would like to export the data from the PDF forms into an Excel spreadsheet. So far I have not found a way to do this because the forms are protected and then Reader-enabled - the result is an Excel spreadsheet with only the names of the files as data.

When I try to remove the protection in a batch process, the message is that it is not possible because of the Reader-enabling.

Is there a way to remove the Reader-enabling in a batch process?

I cannot find the command "File, Save as a copy", which normally removes Reader-enabling, in the batch processing commands.  Would JavaScript be a way to do this?

By the way, I am using the French version of Acrobat 8.1 Professional so my translation of the commands might not be quite exact.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this situation.

Hi Krystyna,

I would suggest using the "Distribute Form" and "Compile Returned Forms" functions in Acrobat 8 Pro. to manage your form data to Excel.

You can perform Save As as a Batch function with Javascript but you'll still need a method to move the form data into Excel. One alternative you might investigate is the ADBC plug-in that allows Javascript in PDF to access databases through ODBC. For more information on this visit:

Hope this helps,
