Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

I have a wordperfect 12 document.  I also have adobe acrobat 8.0 pro installed. When I right click the wordperfect document and select convert to pdf - the process appears to do the conversion and wordperfect just hangs up.  If I select convert to pdf and email, I get the 'save to location' and can generate the pdf document.  Also if I select and open the same wordperfect document and select print to adobe pdf the pdf document is generated.  Only the initial 'convert to pdf' does not work - any fixes.. Thank you

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8 / Windows

Re: Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

Hi bobhope911,

Couple of suggstions for you: 1) make sure you have the latest updates for  Acrobat, Wordperfect, and Windows. Also, try changing the Adobe PDF printer to "Start printing after last page is spooled." Right click the Adobe PDF printer icon and select the Advanced tab.
Change the option "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster" from "Start printing immediately" to "Start printing after last page is spooled," and click OK.

Hope this helps,
Lori

Re: Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

Lori, I have a similar, but slightly different experience.  I have 8.1 Standard.

I've upgraded from 6.x Standard, and used the open WP program to right click on a file to convert to pdf.

That feature does not appear on the WP dialogue now.  I can print to Adobe, and if I'm in Windows Explorer, I do see convert to pdf upon right click.

WP was already on my machine when I upped to 8.1.  Must I reinstall WP to have the function work inside WP?

Thx

Re: Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

I'm not familiar with this specific functionality in WordPerfect. Is this a plug-in for WordPerfect? If so, it was probably installed with WordPerfect. You might want to check the WordPerfect forums/support to see if they offer a suggestion.

Re: Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

Just some general information vis-a-vis WP12 & output PDFs.

Using WP12 & Acrobat Professional 8.1.2/Distiller 8.1.2 in XP.
(If an updated WP12 is used PDF version 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x) compatible output PDFs are possible.)

WP to PDF
#1. In WP, File > Publish To > PDF...
This relies on the Corel PDF Engine ("PrintServer 120").
The Publish to PDF dialog provides a variety of options for configuring the output PDF.
If using WP's hyperlink function to link to PDF(s) use this syntax:
< file://\C:\<directory>\...\<directory>\yourfilename.pdf
The Open PDF Parameters appear to work (at least the "#page=<value>" works).
<file://\C:\<directory>\...\<directory>\yourfilename.pdf#page=2

The "file://\" will have to be added manually.

In the output PDF, clicking on the link leads to the browser opening and within it, the PDF is rendered.

n.b., Selecting a WP file, in Windows Explorer, and, from the context menu, selecting Convert to PDF
will use the Corel PDF Engine. However, this method results in no link(s) being carried from WP file to the output PDF.

#2. Installed with Acrobat Pro/Standard, you have Adobe Distiller.
Make it your default printer driver.
File > Print
Print to Adobe PDF dialog appears. The dialog provides a variety of options for configuring the output PDF.
This Corel dialog lets you access Distiller to edit its settings.
Click Print. The PDF is created (n.b., hyperlinks placed in the WP file did not carry through).

Basically, File > Print calls up Corel printer driver which affords the user a number of configuration options.
Then the print job uses Distller. You can access Distiller from the dialog and then edit Distiller job options.

Re: Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

For #2 this works for me.  But, I can do the same thing without making the Distiller the default printer.  I can, and do, select the distiller from the print button dialogue when I need a pdf file.  Most of my printing is simple output to an actual printer...

...Distiller the default printer

Yes, you are correct, it does not have to be the default. As it has been part of my "set up" for so long I tend to forget it is not a common denominator <grin>.

btw, if you set a hyperlink in the WP12 file does it come through in your output PDF?

Re: Converting WordPerfect 12 document to PDF

Yes, I believe so.  However, I never have a need for extensive links. My letterheater does carry my email address.  It reports as it should in the convereted document, and when invoked, takes me to my email program for sending a new message.

I have not tried any other link....   Do you have a specific link you'd like me to try?
