PDF Import error in Quark

I import pdfs to Quark on a daily basis. It is Quark 6.52. Recently I treid to import some pdfs into my templates and I get the following message: (The pdf file xxxx.pdf cannot be imported because security permissions are set or it is password protected.) These files are not password protected and files that I was able to import earlier in the week give me the same error message now. Where do I change these settings or how did they get changed?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 7 / Macintosh

Re: PDF Import error in Quark

Hi,

It may be a QuarkXPress issue, because it sounds like you had been using files successfully and then they stopped. There is nothing that will quietly apply security to a file without your knowing it (at least nothing in Acrobat). I'd start by contacting Quark.

That being said, it is likely that the files do have some permissions security applied. You can check it by opening the file, selecting File: Properties. Click the Security tab, and look to see if there are any of the listings indicate "Not Allowed," then Quark will flag it.

There is one more possibility. If you are on a Mac, then you might try rebuilding permissions. I don't know if Quark can misinterpret permissions as security, but it can't hurt to repair them.

Re: PDF Import error in Quark

I have experienced the same problem. I checked all file permissions and rebuilt the permissions on the Mac but the problem persists.

Is there any other course of action that you can suggest to remedy this situation. It is like a recurring nightmare.

Thanks for your help

Re: PDF Import error in Quark

As I suggested before, my belief is that problem is with QXP. Acrobat cannot go into a PDF and change security settings by itself.

One workaround would be to export the the PDF as an EPS from Acrobat and use that instead.
