Powerpoint transparency

I am converting a slide in Powerpoint to a PDF-file. In the powerpoint, I made a white rectangle, which is partly transparent, such that the background (a gradient from blue to yellow) can be seen through the rectangle. However, upon conversion to PDF, the rectangle becomes completely white. How can I preserve the transparancy?

Re: Powerpoint transparency

Try inserting the white rectangle as a watermark in your PDF file.
