How do I paste in the back, or front. I used this a lot in the past Adobe 4.0 and I need to use it now with 8.0

You can use the following procedure:
View / Navigation Tabs / Content
(right hand side) Options / Highlight content
Go to the desired page
Drop down the tree structure
[objects at the top of the tree are in effect, at the bottom of the layering order - objects at the bottom of the tree are at the top]
Drag away!

I tried to follow your advice but am lost. I have a crest on one page that I want to paste in back (so the background text shows through)on another page and I don't know if I am in fact viewing the tree structure (I really haven't a clue about the objects in front/back) since I can't drag anything. I used to use Acrobat 5 and never had an issue, what am I doing wrong?

I tried the stamp tool but it won't allow me to have a semi-opaque image and a transparent surrounding in the box.

First of all, make sure you're using Acrobat 7 or 8 and then if you haven't already done so, paste your object into the page and position using the 'touchup object' tool.
Now go to the 'View' menu - select 'Navigation Panels' and then 'Content'. Click on the arrow to drop the content down and then navigate to the page you wish to edit. At this stage go to the 'Options' category in the top-right of the open panel and select 'Highlight Content'.
Now here's the great part - click on the objects in panel and see them highlight in the page. Once you get the hang of it - find the logo you wish to move to the front/back. Now lower or raise in the content panel until you're happy with its layering.
