printing color pdf as black

we have recently upgraded our adobe reader software to 8.0 from versions 6 and 7. we have autocad drawings that we have converted to pdf. they view in color, but i want to print them as black. prior versions had an option to force this. when we print the color pdf from version 8.0 on a laser printer, it prints shades of gray and some are too light to see.

Re: printing color pdf as black

Try one of these options.

Suggestion 1: You may need to adjust Adobe Distiller settings. Try this. Go to Windows Control Panel, click Printers, click the General tab, click Printing Preferences, and set the Adobe PDF settings to the desired output paying particular to the output color.

Suggestion 2: In Acrobat, click Edit Preference, select Convert to PDF, from the list of formats, find the output format for the authoring application of your auto cad drawing and click edit settings.

You also might try the following: go to Edit->Preferences, select the "Accessibility" category. Check "Replace document colors" and choose the "custom color" button. Choose white for the "page background" and black for the "document text." Check the "change the color of line art as well as text". Not sure it'll work in this particular case, but it's an easy thing to try.

Re: printing color pdf as black

This works out great for viewing the PDF file, but it still prints gray-scale... Why oh why did they take away the print dialog option to "print as black"??? It was a wonderful & REQUIRED functionality to get a legible print!!!

Re: printing color pdf as black

I've assumed that you have already tried to set the output color in Auto CAD before converting to PDF.

Read this knowledge base article, it may help solve this problem.
