Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0
The meeting focused on Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 as a tool for creating print and interactive PDF forms.
Most attendees had used Adobe Acrobat Professional for the creation of “Acroforms” and had tried Designer but not for any full-scale form creation and deployment.
This session (the first part of a multipart set of presentations on the topic) focused on introducing the basic concepts of Designer:
- The User Interface
- Using the form objects
- Setting properties
- Creating and using Master Pages
- Custom Components
- The Script Editor
The session showed a number of examples of interactive forms which can be created with Designer which allow the forms to “interact” with the amount of data received or entered into the form by a user. This was demonstrated by the use of scripting to create multiple instances of form objects to add additional form fields as required.
This also led on to show how a “flowed” form can be used to add pages when required if there is more data than can fit on a page or if the user requires more form field objects than can fit onto a single page.
The last part of the session focused on how to submit and gather data from PDF forms using the tools available in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
Information on distributing forms and gathering form data can be found at:
The second session on Designer which will be held in a future user group meeting will focus on looking more closely at the scripting of Designer forms using JavaScript and FormCalc; designing and using flowed content and barcodes.

Thanks to all who attended and shared their experiences of creating and using PDF forms. This topic will run and run
