Meeting Notes Archive

February 27, 2007

On February 27th, the Dallas chapter of Acrobat Users kicked off the first meeting of 2007. It was an event not to be missed. Our spotlight speaker was Bryan J. Tamayo, a Senior Graphic Designer at Fossil Inc. He shared his technique for making PDF graphics jump off a page, and members were too amazed to take notes.

Bryan has been a designer at Fossil for 3 years in the Fossil Licensed brands department. He develops advertising signage/placements, POS displays, art direction for photography for both jewelry and watches, press kits/marketing materials, and packaging for the following brands and a few more, Emporio Armani, Diesel, Burberry, Adidas, Michael Kors, DKNY, Mark Jacobs, Michele, and Zodiac watches.

Bryan also gives tips and tricks sessions at monthly Fossil Art Studio meetings. These sessions are aptly called “Tech Talk”. In these sessions over the past two years he has collected and created tips and tricks specifically tailored for Fossils diverse groups of designers and their workflow. Bryan’s favorite movie is “Shaun of the Dead”, favorite tv show is “Lost” and he does like pina coladas, but NOT being caught in the rain!

To contact Bryan or for any virtual high fives, knuckle bumps, or the old school “pat on the back”, you can email at btamayo@fossil.com.

Thinking Outside of the Page
Bryan was kind enough to make his tutorial available for the Dallas Chapter. Be sure to and tell everyone about his excellent work.

Members were still talking about Bryan's talents, when Tim Huff took the podium for our main presentation. Tim gave a demonstration of Acrobat 3D that had people wanting more. Anyone new to Acrobat, left with their heads spinning from witnessing such cool technology. Tim showed examples of CAD models placed within an Acrobat file. Not only could the models be controlled in actual 3D space, but the compression and reduction of file size were staggering. 200MB crunched down to an impressive 2MB. Two high school students, aspiring 3D animators, actually took three different buses across town just to see Tim's presentation.

The night ended with someone winning a copy of Acrobat 8, and a handful of door prizes donated by Bryan Tamayo.
