Goodbye Bruce

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I feel very fortunate to work in an industry that was created with and has sustained generosity from industry leaders and pioneers. It was through a sharing model that the first desktop computers and early software came about. People like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, John Warnock, Chuck Geschke, and many others were initially motivated more by sharing their enthusiasm rather than making a profit. This initial spirit of generosity has become the foundation for many followers who have made countless contributions for helping individuals worldwide with knowledge and information related to working with our current technologies.

One such individual who made so many contributions and freely distributed his knowledge on complex subjects like digital color management was Bruce Frasier, author of many publications, Photoshop Hall of Famer, and host of the Pixel Genius Web site. Bruce generously wrote many articles, spoke at many hi-tech conferences, and answered countless emails related to demystifying color management.

After battling several months with lung cancer, Bruce passed away on December 16, 2006.

Sadly, I never had a chance to personally meet Bruce. Seems we were always at different conferences years ago. However, I am well aware of Bruce’s genius and his many writings that helped so many people understand color and how to manage color on computer systems and printing devices.

Bruce, I regret that I didn’t have a chance to shake your hand and say, thank you for your generosity and sharing your genius. You will be missed.
