Adobe Reader 7.0.7 features enhanced 3D PDF tools

Adobe Systems has posted an update to its free Adobe Reader software for both Macintosh and Windows. Reader 7.0.7 follows the January 23 introduction of Adobe Acrobat 3D, which includes advanced tools for publishing, sharing, reviewing and marking up PDFs that include 3D objects from computer-aided design (CAD) applications or 3D modeling programs.

You can change the rendering style of a 3D model by choosing alternative
options from the Model Render Mode pop-up menu on the 3D toolbar.

When a 3D model is activated, you can open the Model Tree tab and use it to hide or isolate parts, make parts transparent and see multiple views (including commenting views).

Adobe Reader 7.0 - 7.0.5 can open and view PDFs containing 3D models, but the new version, available from Adobe.com as an updater for Reader 7.0.5 or as a full product, provides additional functionality for interacting with 3D models in PDFs. If the document creator assigns special rights with Acrobat 3D, the viewer can access two additional tools for measuring distances and displaying cross sections, as well as add comments.
  • Rotate
  • Pan
  • Walk (optional - right-click on image to access Walk tool option)
  • Distance (if rights-enabled)
  • Cross Section (if rights-enabled)
  • Zoom
  • Select View
  • Model Tree
  • Pause/Play Animation
  • Orthographic Projection
  • Model Render Mode
  • Enable Extra Lighting
  • Change Background Color

See the Reader 7.0.7 ReadMe file for a more detailed explanation of navigating a 3D PDF, and on commenting on 3D objects.
